Arista 100GQSFP28E-CW4 100GBASE-CWDM4 QSFP28 Transceiver — 2km SMF, Duplex LC, Refurbished
Warranty: Lifetime
100G CWDM4 over duplex SMF — 2 km class, not SR4 parallel MMF
Arista 100GQSFP28E-CW4 — 100GBASE-CWDM4 QSFP28 transceiver, refurbished
Arista / E-series Part Number: 100GQSFP28E-CW4
Common aliases: QSFP-100G-CWDM4 · 100G-CWDM4
Description: Hot-pluggable QSFP28, 100GbE over duplex single-mode fiber, CWDM4 MSA, duplex LC
This is the CWDM4 100G optic — four CWDM lanes muxed onto one duplex LC SMF pair for up to 2 km. It is not an SR4 (parallel MMF / MPO), not a full 10 km LR4, and not a BiDi. If your plant is OM3/OM4 ribbon with MPO, this part will not match the connector or the fiber type.
Refurbished, tested, and coded for Arista QSFP28 ecosystems. Lifetime warranty from Resilient Tec.
Which One Do I Need?
| Going into | You need |
|---|---|
| Arista (or Arista-coded) 100G QSFP28 port, duplex SMF, runs ≤ ~2 km | 100GQSFP28E-CW4 — this product (CWDM4) |
| Same cages, but you need full 10 km LAN-WDM LR4 | 100GQSFP28E-LR4S — LR4 10 km, not CWDM4 |
| Short-reach parallel MMF (MPO-12, OM3/OM4) | QSFP28-SR4-100G — not this module |
| Reuse existing duplex MMF LC plant for 40G (not 100G SMF) | QSFP-40G-SR-BD BiDi — different rate and media |
CWDM4 vs LR4 is the first fork on 100G duplex SMF. Both use duplex LC. CWDM4 is the 2 km / CWDM grid part; LR4 is the 10 km / LAN-WDM part. Ordering LR4 when your run is 800 m and your BOM says CWDM4 wastes budget; ordering CWDM4 for a 8 km campus link will not make distance.

Note on Reach: Why CWDM4 Stops at 2 km
CWDM4 was designed as the cost-efficient duplex-SMF 100G optic for intra-campus and DCI-lite runs — not as a substitute for 10 km LR4. The MSA rates 2 km on G.652 with host FEC. Past that, move to LR4 / XCWDM4 / ER class optics. Do not stretch a CWDM4 module past 2 km and hope; the link budget is not there for production fabrics.
Good to Know
- Duplex LC SMF only. This is not an MPO SR4 module. If your patch panel is MPO-12 multimode, you want SR4, not CWDM4.
- FEC: Rated 2 km CWDM4 reach assumes host FEC per the MSA. Confirm your platform has FEC enabled for 100G.
- Not interchangeable with LR4 by accident. Same cage and same LC connector — different wavelength plan and reach. Match the PID on the BOM.
- Refurbished means previously deployed hardware, cleaned, tested, and re-warranted by us — not “seller unverified used.”
- Always confirm against your Arista EOS / platform optics matrix for production use.
Quick Checklist — Is This the Right Module?
You have a 100G QSFP28 port that accepts Arista CWDM4 coding. Your fiber is duplex single-mode with LC connectors. The run is 2 km or less. Your BOM or matrix calls 100GQSFP28E-CW4 / QSFP-100G-CWDM4. You are not filling an MPO SR4 or 10 km LR4 requirement.
