Fiber Optic Cables & Patch Cords — OM3, OM4, OS2 Single-Mode & Multimode
Fiber optic cables are the backbone of high-speed, long-distance network connectivity. At Resilient Tec, we stock multimode and single-mode fiber patch cords, trunk cables, and pigtails in LC, SC, ST, and MPO/MTP connector configurations — for data center, campus, and enterprise deployments.
Whether you're patching ports in an MDA/IDA, running structured cabling between buildings, or connecting transceivers to your spine fabric, you'll find the right fiber here.
Fiber Types — Which Do You Need?
| Fiber Type | Core Size | Max Reach | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| OM1 Multimode | 62.5µm | 300M @ 1G | Legacy installations |
| OM3 Multimode | 50µm | 300M @ 10G; 100M @ 40G/100G | Data center short-reach, standard AOC pairing |
| OM4 Multimode | 50µm | 550M @ 10G; 150M @ 40G/100G | High-density data center, longer multimode runs |
| OS2 Single-Mode | 9µm | Up to 10km+ @ 10G/100G | Campus, inter-building, WAN, long-haul |
Rule of thumb: Use multimode (OM3/OM4) for in-building and data center runs. Use single-mode (OS2) for runs over 300M or between buildings.
Connector Types Reference
- LC (Lucent Connector) — standard for SFP, SFP+, SFP28 transceivers; small form factor, most common in data center
- SC (Subscriber Connector) — common in campus and telecom environments; larger than LC
- ST (Straight Tip) — bayonet-style; legacy enterprise and industrial deployments
- MPO/MTP (Multi-fiber Push On) — 12 or 24 fiber; used for 40G/100G parallel optics and high-density backbone trunks
Common Use Cases
- Data center patch panel connections — LC-LC OM3/OM4 duplex jumpers between switches and patch panels
- Transceiver-to-switch connections — matching your SFP/SFP+/QSFP transceiver type to the correct fiber connector
- Backbone and inter-row cabling — MPO trunk cables for high-density 40G/100G structured cabling
- Campus inter-building runs — OS2 single-mode for distances exceeding 300M
- Legacy infrastructure upgrades — SC-to-LC adapters and patch cords for mixed environments
