CMR vs. CMP vs. STP — Which Jacket Do I Need?

CMR (Riser-rated) cable is safe for vertical runs between floors inside walls or conduit. It's the most common choice for office and data center structured cabling where the run doesn't pass through an air-handling plenum space. Our Cat6 CMR and Cat6A CMR spools come in 1,000ft lengths for full-floor pull jobs.

CMP (Plenum-rated) cable uses a special low-smoke, fire-retardant jacket required by building codes when cables are run through air-handling spaces like drop ceilings or raised floors used for HVAC. If your run goes above a drop ceiling in a commercial building, CMP is typically mandated by local fire code.

STP (Shielded) cable includes a foil shield around the conductors, dramatically reducing crosstalk and electromagnetic interference. STP is the right choice for environments near heavy electrical equipment, motor rooms, industrial floors, or anywhere EMI is a concern.
