Cisco QSFP-40G-SR-BD 40GBASE-SR BiDi QSFP+ Transceiver — Duplex LC MMF, Refurbished
Warranty: Lifetime
Cisco 40G BiDi — duplex LC MMF, not MPO SR4
Cisco QSFP-40G-SR-BD — 40GBASE-SR BiDi QSFP+ transceiver, refurbished
Cisco Part Number: QSFP-40G-SR-BD
Common aliases: 40G BiDi · QSFP-40G-SRBD (vendor spelling varies)
Description: Hot-pluggable QSFP+, 40GbE bidirectional over duplex multimode fiber, LC connector
This is the Cisco 40G BiDi module — two ~20G wavelengths on a single duplex LC MMF pair so you can reuse existing 10G duplex plant for 40G. It is a separate listing from our Arista QSFP-40G-SRBD refurbished stock. Do not assume Cisco and Arista BiDi coding are interchangeable without checking your platform matrix.
Refurbished, tested, Cisco-coded. Lifetime warranty from Resilient Tec.
Which One Do I Need?
| Going into | You need |
|---|---|
| Cisco 40G QSFP+ port, duplex OM3/OM4 LC plant (upgrade from 10G SR) | Cisco QSFP-40G-SR-BD — this product |
| Arista-coded 40G BiDi specifically | Arista QSFP-40G-SRBD — separate listing |
| Parallel MPO multimode plant (8 fibers) | Finisar QSFP-40G-SR4 or Cisco QSFP-40G-SR4 — not BiDi |
| Dual-rate 40/100G BiDi on QSFP28 | QSFP-40/100-SRBD — different form / rate |
BiDi vs SR4 is the first fork. BiDi = duplex LC (2 fibers). SR4 = MPO-12 (8 fibers used). If you still have duplex LC trunks from 10G, BiDi is usually the path that avoids a fiber plant rip-and-replace.
Technical Specifications
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Cisco Part Number | QSFP-40G-SR-BD |
| Form Factor | QSFP+ (hot-pluggable) |
| Ethernet Standard | 40GBASE-SR BiDi (duplex MMF) |
| Data Rate | 40 Gbps (2 × ~20 Gbps bidirectional channels) |
| Wavelengths | 832–918 nm class (typically ~850 nm and ~900 nm opposite directions) |
| Connector | Duplex LC |
| Fiber / Reach | 100 m OM3 · 150 m OM4/OM5 (Cisco datasheet) |
| DOM / DDM | Supported on typical modules |
| Power | ~3.5 W max class |
| Operating Temperature | 0°C to 70°C (commercial) |
| Standards | QSFP+ MSA, Cisco 40G BiDi, RoHS |
| Warranty | Lifetime, backed by Resilient Tec |
| Condition | Refurbished |
Note on Reach: Why BiDi Quotes Both 100 m and 150 m
Cisco rates QSFP-40G-SR-BD at 100 m on OM3 and 150 m on OM4/OM5. That is the design envelope for duplex MMF BiDi — not SR4 parallel reach, and not a license to ignore connector loss. Extra LC patch panels still cost budget.
Good to Know
- This listing is Cisco QSFP-40G-SR-BD. Our Arista QSFP-40G-SRBD listing is a different SKU and coding path — we intentionally keep them separate.
- BiDi lets you reuse duplex LC 10G MMF for 40G. It does not turn an MPO SR4 trunk into BiDi.
- Both ends of the link need BiDi modules (or a supported BiDi peer). Mixing BiDi with SR4 will not work.
- Refurbished = previously deployed Cisco-coded hardware, tested and re-warranted by us.
Quick Checklist — Is This the Right Module?
You have a Cisco (or Cisco-coded) 40G QSFP+ port. Your fiber is duplex OM3/OM4 with LC. You want to run 40G BiDi, not SR4. Your BOM says QSFP-40G-SR-BD.
